SOKOJ — ORGANISATION OF MUSIC AUTHORS OF SERBIA

We are committed to protecting the value of music and ensuring that the rights of the authors of music, lyrics, arrangements and other copyright holders in musical works of all genres, with or without words, are represented.

We represent over 12 000 domestic authors and copyright holders (under power of attorney i.e. contract) and more than 4 500 000 foreign authors (under over 100 reciprocal representation agreements with foreign authors’ societies/organisations).

We collectively manage the following economic rights of the authors of musical works, with or without words:

THE RIGHT TO COMMUNICATE TO THE PUBLIC THE WORK THAT IS BROADCAST

THE RIGHT TO COMMUNICATE TO THE PUBLIC THE WORK FROM SOUND OR IMAGE CARRIERS

THE RIGHT TO COMPENSATION FOR THE LOANS OF THEIR WORKS

THE RIGHT TO SPECIAL COMPENSATION FOR IMPORT I.E. SALE OF TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT AND EMPTY SOUND, IMAGE AND TEXT CARRIERS FOR WHICH MAY BE JUSTIFIABLY ASSUMED THAT THEY WILL BE USED FOR REPRODUCTION OF THE COPYRIGHTED WORKS FOR PERSONAL, NON-COMMERCIAL PURPOSES OF NATURAL PERSONS, AND

Sokoj performs its activity under the Copyright and Related Rights Act (Official Gazette RS No. 104/2009, 99/2011119/2012, 29/2016 – CC decision, and 66/2019).

The licence for the collective management of economic rights of the authors of musical works and holders of copyright in musical works was renewed by the decision of the Intellectual Property Office (990 No. 2020/4594-05 as of 4 March 2020).

Sokoj acquired the status of a legal entity by registering with the Register of Association held by the Serbian Business Registers Agency.

As a non-profit organisation, Sokoj has two key groups of tasks:

Since 1956, Sokoj has been a member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) with headquarters in Paris.

Since 1959, Sokoj has been a member of the Bureau International de l’Edition Mécanique (BIEM) administering mechanical rights.

We entered into over 100 reciprocal representation agreements with foreign authors’ societies for performing rights i.e. communication to the public and broadcasting of musical works, and for mechanical reproduction rights.
